Welcome to Emanuel Lutheran School.  I am serving as the Principal and 7th/8th grade homeroom teacher.  I began teaching here in 2013.  My focus in the classroom is in the area of Math and Science.  I truly enjoy helping students see the creative and organized thoughts that God put into His creation.  I hope to share that joy with the students in my classroom.

My wife Terri and I have been married since 1989.  In 2012 we were blessed with our son, Isaac.  I graduated from Concordia, Seward in 1990.  I have taught in Hawaii, Illinois, and in Minnesota since 1999.  Most of my teaching has been in Lutheran schools.  Sharing the Gospel and helping students learn what it means to live their faith is a very important part of my calling as a teacher.

The invitation is always open to you for a visit or if you have any questions, please contact us.  We would love to share with you the mission of Emanuel.

Welcome to Emanuel Lutheran Preschool!! My name is Kari Crown and I have been teaching at Emanuel since 2009, but have been in the Early Childhood field since 1991. I am so excited to have the opportunity to teach our littlest ones about the wonder of God's creation, and about the friendship they can have with Jesus. We spend part of each day doing Bible stories, but have plenty of time for language, math, science, music and art centers. Please stop by and join us as we learn and play together!!

Emanuel offers two preschool options for your child. Our 3-4 year old class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays while our 4-5 year old class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Both classes are from 7:45-11:00 a.m.

Primary Room Teacher

Marilyn Vollbrecht

Hello, I'm Mrs. Marilyn Vollbrecht.  I have been teaching at Emanuel on and off since 1978.  Being part of the teaching team in our multi-age primary room with Jodi Wilson has been a rewarding career.  It has been a blessing to coordinate our school garden where the children have many hands-on opportunities to learn about God's amazing creation.  I'm glad to serve as part of the rich history of Christian education at Emanuel.

7th & 8th Grade Teacher/Music Teacher

Sue Loontjer

I am a 1975 graduate of Concordia Teacher's College where I majored in education and physical science. While there I also met and married my husband, Gary. Our first teaching positions were in Detroit , MI, and it was there that our three children were born. From there we moved to Seward, NE, where I was a stay at home mom, day care provider, substitute teacher, and Head Start Family counselor. While in Seward I completed my master's degree in classroom education with an emphasis in middle school language arts. We then moved to Lincoln, NE where I taught middle school language arts for three years in a Catholic school and then for 7 years at Lincoln Lutheran Jr./Sr. High. During that time I continued graduate courses for a Reading Specialist's degree, but before I could take the last class we received a call and moved to St. Louis. In St. Louis my husband was the principal for CCLS, and I taught 7th grade homeroom and middle school language arts at Our Savior, Fenton. Gary then received and accepted a call to teach Physical Science at Mayer Lutheran High School. When we first arrived, I taught science and a variety of subjects at Our Saviors in Excelsior until declining enrollment cut school staff. I have been working part time in Mayer for the last three years helping to manage the Media Center and PSEO students.  I have been at Emanuel since 2009 teaching music and special helps.  In 2013 I also took over a part time teaching role for grades 3-8.  Both my grandfather and father, as well as several uncles, have been Lutheran school educators and have instilled in me a great appreciation for our Lutheran School system. it is a pleasure to be able to serve our Lord by caring for His children and their families.
